I had a 400bhp/370lb-ft Impreza; going to an FD2, you'll notice the lack of grunt and to get any real sense of acceleration requires you to get into VTEC and keep it there. However, in terms of handling, the FD2 is a sheer joy - such direct steering and beautifully balanced chassis. Makes it much quicker on a twisty road or track that you might think and extremely rewarding to drive. An Impreza, while it has masses of acceleration, grip and torque, just can't match the overall driving experience that an FD2 provides. However, my advice would be to drive one for yourself to see how comparative strengths and weaknesses of both cars match up to your own preferences.
