Thanks for the info i'll keep that in mind.
Either way one of these days I might pop up from your workshop, since it is quite close to me.

Hi Dixon, I'm looking to order some new front and rear rotors for the FD2 and was wondering if you offer a Fd2-owners discount on the dixcel slotted discs? (25mm thick) No harm in asking! Just missed the 15% off in May that you offered :(

Sorry no more discount now due to the expensive Japanese Yen.

The Mugen one is actually heavier, as they are 28mm. OEM one are just 25mm, Mugen one is about 1Kg heavier but the disk will last much longer.

Anyone worried about unsprung weight should know the 28mm FCR discs are actually the EXACT same weight as OEM at 8.4kg. Got these fitted at Dixon’s the other day and we must have weighed them half a dozen times in disbelief!

The extra 3mm is however a very tight fit – those doing the fitting themselves will need to file the retaining clips either side of the callipers to give the disc sufficient clearance.

Will wait for my next track day before giving verdict on performance but the shorter pedal travel certainly gives the impression they’re built to take a pounding. Also got Dixcel plain rears and Z pads all round and the very minor squeal issues I had immediately after fitting have now gone.

Thanks to Dixon who also let me nosey in on the whole fitting process, probably to the considerable annoyance of his mechanic!

Thanks for the info. I'm very interested in this set-up myself since i want good track performance from the brakes, so it's good to know that there is no weight penalty.
Just to make it clear when you say file the retaining clips, you mean remove them or something else???

He is talking about the top and bottom shim that hold on to the pads, they both stick out about 1mm too much on both size if you want to fit 28mm disk so you just ne'er file it down a little for the clearance. You will also need to put a 1mm washer to space out the caliper a little, after this modification you will have the exact same caliper that mugen is selling for almost £2k for 28mm disk for their mugen group n race car. What a rip off.

I would suggest if you want 28mm disk to be fitted on your to bring it down to us for the modification.
