Hi all,

I currently have a DC5 which I have owned for 3 years. I fancy a change so was thinking of an FD2.
Unfortunately I have not been for a drive in one, so I have nothing to compare with, but I do find the DC5 quite raw, loud, and 'mechanical' you can feel and hear every part engage as you change gear and build the revs. Is the FD2 similar or is it more 'refined'? I fancy something a bit more 'family friendly' but I am desperate to avoid an M3  .....maybe I'm just getting old! :(

Thanks

I own a DC5 and a FD2, but imo they are worlds apart.

VTEC feels so much better in the FD2, the Stock suspension is really stiff but keeps u glue'd to the ground.
Gear shifts go really smooth.

FD2 is do-able as a family car but you really have to upgrade the suspension to something smoother.. ohlins for example :)

M3 M3 M3 Kirps, it' here the fun is at fella... In all seriousness, the FD2 is too raw as a family car, the kids will spew all over the back seats due to the bounce of the suspension, even with AST's it to raw for our roads, it's a bit like my old DC5 with Tein HA coilovers..

M3 is such a complete car, great engine, RWD to have a bit of fun and a great chassis, what is there not to like about it? If I were in your position i'd be going for a 04 plate CS as the E92 like mine is pretty thirsty with high running costs.

the fd2 are not that hard to sit in un less yr a bit of a old boaring man. m3 are a nice car to drive. rwd is a lot of fun with a great engine. but you will never finish buying parts. every week it will need something. and they are not cheap. the dash will look like a christmas tree they rattle and the build quilty on the inside is a joke. i had two of them. 03 ones with low enough miles.. honda is twice the car. in every way apart from the rwd.

Um, I wasn't on about the seats, the seats in the FD2 are fantastic, I was on about the harshness of the ride, I had mine for about a year but it was tiresome. I've had a fair few BMW's and not had any build quality issues, I'm a bit of a Honda fan but they are not twice the car of an M3... :-D

I 've never owned any Bimmers, but a point to be noted is that the FD2 ride is quite harsh. I am used to it and i kinda like it, but it stills remain quite a raw car.

My kids would disagree with you, the only thing coming out of their mouths in the back of the FD2 is a long line of Z's! The harshness of the FD2 is greatly exaggerated, and as Mad says you soon get used to it.

Coming from E92 M3 with KW V3 + 20in wheels, FD2R is still much stiffer than my prev M3.

I think I'm going to need to take both for a drive and see which I prefer (assuming I can find an FD2!)....However I do agree that the M3 may be a great drivers car, but the running costs are very steep.....

I had an '05 M3 CS for a year at the same time as owning my DC5. Sold the M3 and kept the DC5. Both great cars mind.

FD2/DC5 is such a different car to drive compared to an M3, but as fun blasts go, the DC5 had the M3 licked IMO.

Try one you might be surprised how small the back seat area isin M3!
